Last week Karolien van den Brekel attended the NHG Congress, hosted by the Dutch College of General Practitioners. It felt very connected to be among 1000 dedicated general practitioners. The opening remarks by Raymond Wetzels (director of NHG) advocacy for human-centered care resonated well, reminding us all of the core values driving our profession. Robert Keppel (chair of the congress committee NHG) engaged the whole group on a very personal level with the themes of the day, the 4 D’s – Doelmatigheid, Duurzaamheid, Doen, and Doorleren (Efficiency, Sustainability, Doing, and Learning Through) – set the tone for engaging discussions ahead.
What stood out were the discussions about new ways of facing the future, holistic approaches, lifestyle interventions, attentive listening, and lean methodologies.
“I was glad to support with the well attended workshop on the concept of Positive Health. The discussions showed importance of evolving our practices to ensure the sustainability and resilience of Dutch primary care, emphasizing the need for collaborative efforts.” – Karolien van den Brekel.
