The recent study published in BMC Health Services Research showcases how the Positive Health framework can transform healthcare practices. One of the participating regions is the Leidsche Rijn-Vleuten de Meern district of Utrecht, where our colleague Karolien van den Brekel-Dijkstra works as a GP.
Key Insights:
- Seven ‘working elements’ were identified that enhance the chances of successfully implementing Positive Health.
- Healthcare professionals observed that patients adopt healthier lifestyles and gain greater control over their health, which also boosts job satisfaction among professionals.
- While the Positive Health approach is met with enthusiasm, professionals also share some practical barriers.
Conclusions:
- Implementing Positive Health encourages collaboration across sectors like healthcare, welfare, and municipal health services.
- Professionals from different disciplines can more easily collaborate around a shared goal to improve citizens’ well-being.
- It shifts attention to non-medical issues like loneliness and financial difficulties, which significantly affect people’s overall health.
