Positive Health: A new concept for resilience and wellbeing

Positive Health is a transformative approach to health that goes beyond the traditional view of health as the absence of disease.

The concept has been developed in the Netherlands by Dr. Machteld Huber and has played an important role in the country’s current transformation from a disease-oriented to a health-oriented health care system.

The concept emphasizes the resilience of individuals in adapting to life’s challenges and focuses on what truly matters to them. This way Positive Health empowers individuals to take control of their well-being and live fulfilling lives.

Recently there has been growing interest from other countries, like Germany, Belgium or Japan to spread the movement of Positive Health in their countries and in close collaboration with the Dutch organization “Positive Health International” training programmes, implementation and research projects have been started.

In her lecture/workshop Angela Smith, board member of the German association Positive Gesundheit Deutschland e. V. and Employee of the Patients’ and Citizen’s Association GESUNDHEIT AKTIV e. V., presents the concept of Positive Health with its six dimensions of health, introduces the practical application of the so-called spiderweb that enables people to visualize their individual view on their own health and to enter into a person-centered dialogue focusing on their personal health resources.
